From Dynamics NAV to Dynamics 365 Business Central

The world's strongest business solution, Microsoft Dynamics NAV, has undergone a major transformation and from October 2018, Microsoft Dynamics NAV became part of the Dynamics 365 brand and changed its name to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

A great vision becomes reality

Microsoft has cemented their leadership in business solutions for Danish companies by launching Dynamics 365.

Dynamics 365 is a business platform that breaks down traditional silos between the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution and the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solution.

Dynamics 365 gives you access to a wide range of enterprise management applications in one ready-to-run and integrable solution.

Welcome to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Welcome to Dynamics 365 Business Central - and many new opportunities

In the spring of 2018, Microsoft introduced a cloud version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV for Dynamics 365, and in October 2018 launched a new on-premises version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV and announced at the same time that Microsoft Dynamics NAV changed its name to Dynamics 365 Business Central. The name Dynamics 365 Business Central thus covers all the features you know from Microsoft Dynamics NAV and the solution is available in both an on-premises and cloud version.

So we have said goodbye to the NAV name, but fortunately only to the name, because the world's strongest business solution lives on under the name Dynamics 365 Business Central. But has anything changed beyond the name? What are the consequences for you? And should you do anything? You probably have a lot of questions and we have tried to answer some below.

Now you can get Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises and as a cloud solution

Microsoft Dynamics NAV changes its name to Dynamics 365 Business Central, but it is based on the same code and features the same features as Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018 - plus a few minor news items in line with Microsoft's traditional annual boost. The new thing is that you can now get the solution both as a pure cloud version, where apps are connected, and in a version that is hosted on its own server with customizations - just like today, where apps can also be connected in the form of extensions .

With Business Central it will be easier to upgrade

In recent years, Microsoft has been working on the concept of "extensions", where adjustments are made in separate modules, instead of in the base code. Extensions makes it much easier, faster, and safer to upgrade custom versions of Dynamics 365 Business Central and are intended for both the on-premises and cloud version. You can still make traditional developments in the on-prem version of Dynamics 365 Business Central, but ultimately it's just a matter of time before this is no longer possible. The cloud version upgrades will be more frequent and automatic in the future.

With Business Central you get better integration and more digital intelligence

Even if you don't choose the cloud edition of Dynamics 365 Business Central, you can still enjoy having data in the cloud. The On-premise Business Central edition can be run in a hybrid edition where one's data (or parts of it) are copied daily in the cloud so that you can easily exploit what Microsoft calls "Intelligent Edge" to provide Intelligent Cloud Insights programs like Power BI and other artificial intelligence.

With Business Central you can still both buy and rent your license, but only named users

You will still be able to choose between buying or renting your license, but where it was previously "simultaneous" users when you bought and "named" users when you rented, then there are only "named" users in the future. The Cloud edition of Dynamics 365 Business Central can only be purchased as a monthly subscription per user, while with the on-premises version it is possible to choose whether to rent or buy. If you already have a NAV license and want to switch to the Dynamics 365 Business Central cloud edition, Microsoft is currently offering a monthly subscription discount. When you are ready to become infrastructure-independent, there is now a much simpler way forward than before.
